Message	bored at work so here are my .02 that I learned back in college - Maybe a little time intensive but i'd solder and then apply heat shrink - for the soldering job itself, i'd tin the tips of the wires first (apply some flux) and then solder them together - as far as a soldering gun, if you want to go all out, i'd suggest getting one with an adjustable temperature
