In reading in the FSM, it sounds like the ball joint is supposed to rotate with turning torque very easily (between 2.6 and 26 in-lbs). But, again in the FSM, the nut that binds the ball joint to the tie rod is supposed to be torqued to 33-44 ft-lbs. Now, I haven't yet tested this because currently I haven't located the nuts and cotter pins that my helper misplaced, but I can spin the ball joint threaded part by hand (which makes sense, according to the FSM turning torque). I don't understand how it would be possible to torque the nut that goes on the ball joint to 33+ ft-lbs. Am I missing something? I thought that possibly there was a way to secure the ball joint, but I can't find anything in the FSM, and it doesn't look like there's any way to secure it.
