I like the feeling of stability that the weighted tires on a stable platform base offers. I use the platform portion of a pair of Sears metal drive on ramps. I jack up the car, and insert them under the rear wheels. Of course many people will tell you it is OK if the stands are properly placed under the jack stand support points, insuring the car is weight-balanced, and the stand bases are on flat [concrete] surface. But for me personally, I've had too many experiences with a car on four stands and having it feel unstable... And even with a platform support, I always "rock it" back and forth vigorously before I get under. I mean I really shake the car...if there is ANY possibility of it going down, I want it to happen before I'm under.
