| Well, this is sort of Z related and sort of not. Here's why: My daily driver, a 1998 Accord, travels about 200-300 miles per day, and then comes home to sit in the garage next to my Z. The problem is, I've gone through several sets of tires over the past 100,000 miles (3 sets to be exact) and I'm looking for the QUIETEST possible tire, being that cost, wear, and other factors aren't as important. The first set I bought some "cheap" Sumitomo's and they lasted less than 30k miles and were so loud you had to speak up to talk to the person in the passenger seat when you're on the hiway. I called Tirerack and spoke to a guy that wasn't really helpful (Luke wasn't there when I called...I'm assuming he still works there) and told me to buy the Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S. (195/65 (or 60?)/15 I believe is the size). So I did. They were quiet for about 30k miles and then were at the wear bars and became very loud. These are the tires I'm using as my "reference" tires for purposes of this thread.
That being said, I looked at tirerack's customer reviews and bought a set of Kumho's (I forget the specific model off hand) but they were quiet for about 4-5k miles and then were VERRRRRY loud. They are very dissappointing. This brings me to current day. I'm looking for a good QUIET tire to put on my accord. Any recommendations? Wear issues are not there. I have fairly new shocks (bilsteins) and stock springs on my accord. The tires dont' have any funny wear patterns, and I get an alignment every time I get new tires put on. And, while we're on the issue of tires, I'm looking for 285/30/ZR18's to replace my BFG KD (dry traction only) (not KDW's) rear tires.... what are my options? Nitto or Falkens, right? Price isn't really a concern as long as they have decent traction. (I know, I know... 30 series tires + Z32 = no traction anyway)
thanks in advance.
