for an NA and TT of similar mileage and condition, a clip added to the NA is unlikely to equal the TT alone. The main reason is that clip engine quality is unknown whereas the TT straight out can be thoroughly evaluated. Plus you have to allow for parts from the clip that are unacceptable and need to be replaced, and parts transfer time to the NA.In short, risk/reward is the weakness in the NA route; for the possibility of saving a few bucks or getting started sooner you chance buying into a nightmare. I imagine there are a couple of exceptions, e.g., finding an extremely inexpensive NA of the mileage and condition you are looking for, or if the clip was known to be of very high quality. Either exception assumes you have the skills and interest level for the conversion, of course. You say, "I want to rework everything, wheels, suspension, engine, interior, cosmetics and have the end product be my own work." If so, take your time and find a TT of the quality and color you need. That way your project starts out with a firm foundation and several critical steps ahead.
