Message I see lots of posts about different exhaust systems, and I see all these people talking about which is the best, and which is louder, and I see people overlooking one very basic point.

Some of us have TT's, and some have NA's. An exhaust which works the best on a TT might not be the best on an NA. Just because they're both Z's doesn't mean a thing. One is a turbocharged engine, and one is a naturally aspirated engine.

I hear people say that certain exhausts are too loud. Well on a TT, it's not going to be too loud, because the turbo's muffle the sound. On my last Z, a 1986 turbo, my exhaust rusted right after the cat. Even without a muffler it wasn't very loud. On the other hand, on NA cars those same exhausts may be obnoxiously loud.

Another thing is that performance will be different between the TT and NA.

On a TT, the bigger the exhaust, the better. The turbo creates enough backpressure, and you don't need any more. On an NA, you lose too much backpressure and you're going to lose some performance in the low end RPM's.

So keep this in mind, if an NA owner asks what type of exhaust to get, TT owners should be hesitant to reply, because what's good on their car may not be good on the NA. And likewise, NA owners should be hesitant to give TT owners advice, because I always see NA owners telling TT owners that certain exhausts will be too loud.

Just something to think about.
