what you think may cause the gear noise, and any ideas on how to minimize the potential of it. As you can see, experiences are extemely varied. I have talked to Richmond about it, and they have tested each gear set I have returned, and in almost all cases can't get the gears to make noise in their testing They make a statement that some cars will make a "high performance sound" (gear noise). The design engineer for the gears said it can be caused by multiple variables:1. Incorrect contact pattern due to faulty install. 2. The cut of the gears lends itself to some noise (like the whine of a centifical supercharger). 3. The hardness of the gear material. 4. When I asked why some made noise and some didn't, with similar bushing material, and set up by the same person, he speculated that there is a natural hamonic in all cars and that sometimes the gears amplify that harmonic. I'm over my head at this point, and thought with your-alls' experience and education you might be able to shed some additional light on the subject. I think I mentioned it to Don, and would welcome any of you three to talk to him and see if you can gather some helpful info. One factor that is statistically significant (anecdotally anyway), is that the harder the subframe bushings and mounts, the more apt the gears are to make noise. Thanks, Mark
