Message Definitely use a block. 200 grit should be about right to take it down, but u dont necessarily have to go to bare metal, in fact not usually a great idea, especially if you arent going to re-prime right away. After the 200 grit should consider priming- an epoxy like DP-40 is preferable, then you can finish with 500 prior to painting.
