My z was towed to a mechanic, 3 hours from were i live on may 23rd, to have a new engine put in it. I had scheduled the two day appt. almost 3 weeks previous. i assumed making an appt. meant getting it worked on at the appointed time. i was then told they were backed up and would not get to the car for two weeks. the car was parked in there lot behind the shop. i told the mechanic there was a very expensive audio system in the car. he said he would move the car to the lighted, busy street side of the vehicle until it was worked on. this never happened. i called after the two weeks had elapsed and he said they still hadnt gotten to the vehicle, and would not until the 21st of june. the car was broken into on this last friday night and 4000 dollars in gear was stolen and another 2-3 thousand in damage done to the vehicle. can the mechanic be held liable? he says even though it was under his care, in his lot, in his possession, what happened is no different than me having the car parked on a public street and having it broken into, making me liable. please help
