Message basics of a good set of tools: fast laptop with fast internet kept near Z for fast access to TT.net, safety glasses, nitrile chemical resistant disposable gloves, air-compressor, air-tool combo kit (3/8" ratchet, 1/2" impact, etc.), 6-point 16mm deep socket, digital caliper, bearing/pulley puller, push-pull tension gauge, coolant system pressure tester, long straight needle-nose pliers, long 45 degree needle-nose pliers, long 90 degree needle-nose pliers, extendable magnet, flexi-shaft claw grabber, extendable mirror, Dremel with extension shaft, various steel-wire brushes for drill, scraper, box-cutter razor, chain vise-grip, vise-grip plier set, various clamps, metric flare-end wrenches, clutch alignment bar, oil-pressure gauge kit, fuel pressure gauge kit, air-pressure gauge kit, click-type and/or beam-type torque wrench (20-250 ft.-lbs), inch-lbs torque wrench, spring compressor, electrical multi-meter (volt/ohm meter), body panel fastener removal set, heat-gun, metric tap & die set, Drill-Doctor, bench vise, bench grinder/brush/polisher, fuse tester, specific gravity tester.
I am sometimes creative with my tools such as using a socket as a drift or using an old screwdriver as a punch, etc.
I've probably not thought of a bazillion different tools, etc, so you'll have to rely on the rest of the TT.net members to catch my slack.
As far as where I get my tools, I have purchased them from Snap-On, NAPA, Home Depot, Lowes, Harbor Freight, Northern Tool, and only as a last resort Sears (I have had a VERY DIFFICULT time warrantying a tool on several different occasions at Sears).
Hope that helps :)
