Message The difference is the owner vs. the mechanic that is in a hurry to get to his next job.....
I can not tell you how many times I have seen the mistake by high end alignment shops that really should know better. The owner normally does not inspect every job and sometimes the guy working on the car simply does not care or has brain fade.
The tension rod is not stressed by running stock upper arms. The tension rod bearing if orieted correctly only gets stress forward and back. over rotating the bearing past it's travel is what will kill it. The bearing is plenty strong to take forward back pressure. I stop my car hard from 150 MPH quickly with no issues.
The upper arm can see bearing stress from the Tension rod moving forward and back excessively and is why you really need the more solid tension rod when running the upper adj arms.
