| Z32 in Texas. First, the seller and I agreed on a price subject to a pre-purchase mechanical and personal inspection satisfactory to me. Then I FAXed a purchase and sale agreement (below) that I drew up to him which required that he sign the agreement and return it to me with the title to the car. I then sent him a $500 deposit. This exchange of deposit and title was just to assure each of us that the other was serious about going through with the deal. The only obligations I had under the agreement was that I or my agent had to inspect the car if I wanted my deposit back, and if I didn't buy the car I had to return the title. If that inspection didn't happen the seller got to keep the deposit. Once the mechanical ppi was done and OK, I bought my plane tickets and went down, looked the car over, and made payment. Obviously, this is an arrangement only as good as the parties involved. (I could have ended up in a ditch outside of Houston with a bullet in my head.) You've got to use your judgement about the character of the guy and the situation you are dealing with. Since this is a car in Oregon, and you're in SW Washington, I would just get my butt down there ASAP and close the deal in person.
