Message I have been making steady progress on the Z ever since I painted it and figured I'd post pictures of it online. Unfortunately it's not tons of progress but I do get a little done everyday.

The block, heads, and turbos etc are all at Don's place right now, since he is the guy that is basically bolting all of that stuff together for me. He ported the heads for me also since he's the main person I trust with doing things for me and the job he did is phenominal. i don't have pictures of it, but if he wants to post them up, then I'm sure he will.

Been waiting on several parts getting Swain coated etc and the progress over on that end of it is coming slow b/c of all that waiting as well, luckily though cause it has given me plenty of time to get everything else on my car done and ready so that once the block is in, I will be completely done with the car.

Example of the Heat Swain Coat

Example of heat dissipating coating on my TOM FMIC. The coating itself is black. For some reason one of the sides, they made it have this silver coating on the bars. I believe it is a looks thing. Either way, I don't care...as long as it helps the FMIC cool that much better.

As most of you probably saw in another post, I repainted my engine bay. It turned out really well since this time I used a booth.

Progress thus far

Once that was done I actually went out of town for 2.5 weeks so I was no table to work on the car that whole time. As soon as I got back though, I was finally able to start bolting things back together. DVDBurn's posts of his clean wiring jobs actually inspired me (since I had the time, to tear my whole interior apart as well to go back and make sure all of my electrical lines that I've been hooking up for the past 7 years were done correctly, heat shrunk, wire loomed etc. Needless to say, most of them were not since especially in high school...I had no idea what the hell I was doing. Although it added a ton of time to my project, it feels great to now know that my car's electrical wiring is totally perfect now.

Car interior now to get to all of the wires (ugh...back out again) :(

You can see the dangling wire mess in front of the drivers front fender. That's just an example of stuff before properly matching wires and ziptieing stuff back. Can't wait to polish this thing also haha.

How I run the battery cable now instead of that shitty way I did it underneath the car.

Second fuel pump stuff...

How it's bolted down...missing a finishing washer, but for this application under the carpet it does not matter so I left it as is.

Switch for it. Also along with changing everything to AN I also wanted to change all bolts that are not structural to stainless hex hence the bolts you see in this picture.

MAP Sensor, then AIT Sensor, then Water Temp Sensor all properly organized now in ONE single wire loom.

While kind of talking about my interior, my cigarette lighter has been missing since I bought the car and I don't smoke, so I decided to put a pointless engine start button in it's place. It works and is pointless, but I like it. I also wrapped my e-brake handle to match my steering wheel and everything else in my car. Once again...pointless, but I like it.

Another pointless mod I did was add a trunk light to the Z. The 2 seaters do not have them so I used two of those 12 LED panels that many of us have now been using in the foot-wells, headliner, and license plates to add two trunk lights from behind the slits in the hatch trim. here is where I put the switch. I'm really happy, and it lights up really bright honestly

Also went and tore my trunk apart and welded together a battery box for my little odyssey 12lb battery I have back there under the amps. It's bolted down and everything and I am very pleased. Sadly I didn't take a picture of it, but honestly it's just a box in the spare tire well haha.

One other things I really wanted to do after making my whole fuel system AN fittings was go ahead and make as many of the other things on my car AN fittings as well. Needless to say I'm not done yet, but I've changed a lot of things.

Fuel AN Fittings

Also some AN fittings on my car that did not match in color (like the blue red ones that come with the SPL radiator kit) I changed over to black and red so they would match.

Before it was blue and red...after it was...

Also, as many of you all know I foam injected the frame rails on my Z. This things makes the biggest damn mess ever, but from what I hear it really does strengthen up the Z so I am VERY glad I did it. If you do it...just wear gloves. I still have urethane on my hands after 3 days. Once the stuff drys it's as hard as a rock and expands to 4 times it's size. I got it through a friend that works out of town at a composite place (I actually forgot the name...I know it's something Composite) for only ~$60 for everything.

Mess

In the rails

Extra I put in a cup so I can show people just how hard it is. Yes...I will bring this cup to ZCON in San Antonio.

If anyone is actually interested in the stuff, I can call up my friend and ask him to give me more at the discounted price for you all.

Also, I have always had a problem with my PS Fluid overheating. To remedy this problem I decided to go all out. I installed a new rack, new pump, and all new lines, but then I also decided to add my own PS cooler. Now b/c I want to continue to have basically nothing between the FMIC and the AC condenser I decided to try facing it downwards (got this idea from UAS's Tranny cooler on their race car). Now obviously there will still be some air loss that won't go through the radiator but it will be a far less negative effect then if I put a hot cooler blocking the air in front of it. Also, this thing will obviously not cool NEARLY as well as if it was vertical, but I am positive it will cool plenty since without them almost 95% of the time we have no overheating PS issues. Also, I think European Zs have a PS cooler and all it is a simple single loop cooler. With this being a highly efficient Fluidyne cooler with a heat emmiting coating, although with not as much air flow, I'm still sure it will cool better than the stock EuroSpec unit. We shall see though, as this is really just an experiment. and the ultimate test will really be on the track day at ZCON09.

Here is a picture of the cooler on it's aluminum bracket I made that also acts as a reinforcement for the bumper. All the bolts on the underside are SS bolts sunk into finishing washers so their it shouldn't be a problem on the occasional bumper scrape =)

And an example of what I mean about their being nothing behind the FMIC now. The whole reason I went to a FMIC was b/c I really want to see if I can have a daily driven Z in Texas summer heat without it overheating. My means of helping this will be with a Billion HF Thermostat, the oil cooler in the radiator, the air filters to the side, a new non clogged AC condenser, and the PS cooler facing down. Hopefully everything will work out good and I will no thave heating issues. I feel it will, but we will all only know once I am starting to drive it again.

Anyways, as usual, thanks a lot for looking!

Thanks,
Mike
