| Background: It was a bone stock 95TT with 127K in to the dealer for a new timing belt job due to age (over 5 years). I put about 10K on the car over the past three years and this was the 3rd timing belt on this car. About ten days after the timing new timing belt and camshaft seals were installed along with all the other parts, while evening cruising at interstate speeds a driver side camshaft sprocket snapped off. This event scored the head and probably bent all of the valves on the drivers side as well as who know what on the passenger side. Most of the oil came out of the car as I coasted to a stop and then the engine shut off by itself after gasping for about 20 to 30 seconds. Not really knowing what happened I probably should not have tried restarted it, but tried anyway and it died in about 5 seconds. Question: Is it just me or does anyone else think this "event" was related to the timing belt job? Incorrect tension on the belt? Incorrect torque or whatever on the cam sprocket after replacing the oil seal? Something other than a coincidence or do camshafts break like this? Needless to say I am very bitter and depressed.
