Message The Mk 4 Supra, RX7, NSX, 3000GT had all entered the market as well by that point so there was a lot of players in the game. All Nissan did was add airbags to the pass side (which pushed the price of the car up) and changed the wing, and relocated the seat belts to the B pillars - but didn't up the HP out put or change the wheels/brakes which continued to be weak points on the car. Nissan was in such sad shape in 1995 that they didn't even have a 25th anniversary edition Z (which is why Stillen rolled out the SMZ). By the 96 model year the car was dead - price went up again due to OBD2 changes and forced new emissions standards, crappy exchange rate kept getting worse and performance was not going up.

A TwinTurbo was pushing upwards of $55k when new - the fact you could get a used 90 or 91 model year for closer to half that didn't help the new sales market when the model & specs became stale.

You'll notice that by comparison the 350z has had what 5 or 6 different wheel styles in its lifespan, gradual HP bumps (rev ups) and stylistic changes every few years - and virtually no comparable competition from Honda or Toyota.
