Message	stereo, and there are many different opinions of what a good sounding stereo is. This is part of the reason you're hearing contradicting information both online and from shops. Additionally, shops will obviously want you to both buy their product and have them install it, which is also a source of the contradicting information you're hearing from them. They want to win your business by making other shops seem incompetent. Unless Alpine has taken a serious dive in the last couple years, I highly doubt any of their amps are junk. The Arc and Zapco amps are most definitely higher quality, but in the way that a Mercedes is higher quality than a Toyota. Any of the amps you mention should make a damn good starting point for a stereo.
