When I get in my car I usually start it up first thing and then get whatever I need to situated, seat belt, radio etc. My mom used to drive my old Z from time to time and she always left it in gear. Most of my friends do the same thing on manual cars. I'd get in not knowing it was in gear, start it, release the clutch and lurch forward and stall. It's just a habit I have. People who put on the parking brake on automatics is another one of my pet peeves. Only time I leave it in gear or use the parking brake on an auto is on steep hills.
