Message The American automotive industry has a highly flawed business model. They attempt to sell a product through marketing, despite having an inferior product for the most part. They sit around waiting for the next 'big thing.' Meanwhile, they focus their R&D efforts on gimmicks instead of enhancing the performance and value of their products. Then they attempt to reduce the cost of the product by outsourcing the construction of the cars to neighboring countries. Additionally, the UAW shares in some blame. Unions in any developed nation must accept the reality that it may be cheaper to build a product in another country and ship it here. However, they've neglected this fact at the detriment to many workers.

I feel that the 'big 3' should all be bankrupted. Then someone can buy the plants and facilities that worked in the United States. Then new US car companies could be formed which have a focus on problem solving and product development and let the marketing execs take a hike. Also, a new UAW needs to be formed which places a focus on job formation rather than simply worker rights and wages. Yeah for about 2-5 years there may not be a NEW US car but hell I can't really tell the difference between the past 20 years of the cars produced by the 'big 3' (exempt the Corvette, however it was developed by race teams and copied by Chevrolet).

Let them burn.
