Message Cowl induction is a design that the underside of the hood seals around the
intake of a carburated V8 engine like the design on the 70 Chevelle SS. The
positive pressure in front of the windshield forces the air into the induction
system at speed.

A regular cowl hood will just vent heat out of the engine bay since the
pressure inside the engine bay will be greater than the pressure in front of
the windshield due to the ram air into the engine bay.
