Message Had to look thru your post history to confirm it was Bjamin's old car though.

OK, so you want better sound, and louder. Gotcha. for starters, I'd keep the HU, that's a great unit.

Front components, I'd recommend Focal if you can find a deal or don't mind paying for quality. They're amazing components.

Rear speakers, I'd get matching brand coaxial rears, or if you can find them, just the woofers, and run them something like 150Hz to 5kHz.

Two 12's... that's some thump. There are many great options from JL, MB Quart, Image Dynamics, etc etc... Box volume will be a limiting factor, as you already have the enclosures. Remember too that sensitivity is a meaningless value with subwoofers, as it's typically measured at 1kHz.

Amps, if you don't mind getting something without a warranty, and want some of the best sound and cleanest power available, old school Xtants are tough to beat. They can be found on eBay all day long at dirt cheap prices

Check out their specs on www.xtant.com. I don't know of anything that clean built today.

Otherwise, Alpine, Soundstream and HiFonics make a great amp. Orion used to be great as well, but I'm sure they've got bought out this century. Many people also rave about JL Audio amps, such as the 500/5 system amp.

Rewire the speakers with quality speaker wire for sure, that makes an audible difference. Using decent RCAs helps too, and be sure to keep power away from RCA cables when running them in the car.

Also wouldn't hurt to add an active EQ to the mix. If all the components are functioning correctly (the crackling could be many things, but it could be a source signal issue), a good tune will do wonders. Something I'd recommend is an AudioControl EQQ or EQX. The EQQ is a 4-channel EQ, and the EQX is a 4 channel EQ with cross over. Example of an EQX auction

Sound deadening helps also, but you can get pretty obsessed with that; getting every nook and cranny of the car.
