Message with 83k and 16 years of service. I was forced to use 10% ethanol this year since nothing else available, so is this a coinsidence? To explore I cut the injector apart to see if there were signs of corrosion or plastic decomposition or anything else that might cause the failure. I could not find anything amiss inside. The copper coil wire was like new for its entire length and still nicely coated with the insulating varnish. The were no signs of ethanol fuel intrusion. There obviously was a short in the coil but it was not visually obvious. It is probable that the insulating varnish seal was broken somewhere along the tightly wrapped coiling and the coil failed.

Perhaps improper voltage/current flow made the injector fail due to the very corroded connectors I had (never checked them due to PITA to get them off and thought they would break if removed). I saw a post on this site that ethanol fuel has less lubricating ability than gasoline alone and therefore the pintle has greater resistence to movement causing the coil to be effected. Seems also plausible. I think the jury is still out on this.

The 12v switch off may have some validity. I doubt it it takes 10 min to do as the link says because not all the wiring has the bundle of injector wires licated so close to the ECM. In my case they were not present as noted in the post. So I am not sure what do do in that case.

Any suggestions?
