| in '97 once the damage was done. Trends are trends and people will buy anything for the wrong reasons. You can call it conjecture if you want but that's what happened. Audi and BMW brought the sportscar back with the TT and Z3 and SUVs became too blase for the "status shopper" and as with everything else in life, the cycle came back around and sportscars became popular again since "everyone" already had SUVs and they lost their stature once they became much more affordable.
