Message	VW -6%. Honda -20%. The DSG (dual clutch) tranny is, by far IMHO, the best *automatic* in the business but it is in only a few Audis and VWs. VW's boosted, direct injected engines are, as you said, decent (at least). A TDI Jetta, driven by civilians, recently recorded 58 mpg. Audi also has excellent styling and interiors. As you said reliability is an issue as is the high Euro/Dollar ratio (price). That said, I am biased - I bought a A3 for a DD 1.5 years ago and have been very happy with it. So far.
