Your engine works much the same way where one piston fires at a time, but you have so many more of these bursts per second that you generate power, a time-relational notation of force. If every one of your 6 cylinders fired at the same time, the torque would be greater than 2500ft/lbs, but you would only get one burst per two revolutions. Not very usable power - destructive is a better term. Distributing that torque out over time, say 3 bursts per single revolution, then you have something that you can work with. : How can a $450 air-powered impact wrench develop 1000 ft. lbs of torque, but a twin-turbo max out at ~ 400 ft. lbs? Is a foot-pound not a foot-pound?
