Message feel that either I mislead or misrepresented my interests to a few of you; I have no desire procure an 850 series! My apologies for not clarifying that further in my original post. That gas-monger-cant-wait-to-break-down has no room in my already tight budget of keeping two mildly high mileage Z's on the road. I'm not broke, but I also haven't the desire to become any more enslaved to vehicle expenses (dead money), so I was really looking for something that I could buy from the value of selling my truck (about 10K). HOWEVER, as stated this vehicle would be a DD, so it would need to be reliable; my Z's find a way of usurping my cash quick enough that I definitely do not want another "project car" or likewise.

I was looking into the BMW 3 series (especially "older" models, such as early 90's, esp. for a mid-mileage model) because from everything I have heard throughout my life BMW makes extremely reliable cars, and early 90's models have come down in price comparably. Apparently this is true, but there is a caveat - they are very high *maintenance* vehicles, and require much more care and attention than say, a basic honda or civic DD. Neglect apparently comes with a slightly heftier premium, which I am trying to keep in mind for my budget.

Gordo, if I was in a better position to do so I would take your sound advice and pick up one around the 50K mark, however unfortunately it won't readily apply to my situation because the implications would be that of a newer car for warranty issues, and thus much more costly for the model year. I will continue perusing some of the notable forums for further specific information, and a few of you have helped me to at least settle on a model of interest - the E36. However I will hold off on making a decision for now, as I will have to weigh the practicality against buying a civic, corolla or something similar. Given the odds, the BMW would make for a 'fun' but pricier DD, so I have some thinking to do on that note.

Thank you all again for your input, it really did help.
