| First, I highly recommend you seal the floor with a U-Coat-it like system. If you can choose a color go with white as it will reflect more light when you're underneath the car. Second, once that's done and the garage is still cleared out, pull your car in and mark with tape where the car parks. Figure in about 6-12" around the car for work area and 2-3' for door opening clearance. This will give you an idea of what your usable space is. Third, decide what large tools you have and where you're going to keep them. Air compressors, work lamps, engine stands, floor jacks, etc. Keep in mind that some of these items may need space to work with them, such as engine stands. While other items like engine hoists and jacks can be put 'out of the way.' Fourth, figure out storage. Personally, I hate toolboxes and much prefer to have all my automotive hand tools organized on a floor to ceiling black pegboard wall. In terms of cabinetry, take a look at what you have left over in terms of items to place in the garage. I'd suggest a large whiteboard (formica board with edging) so you can make notes regarding the cars and what issues they have. Fifth, you'll need a workbench area. Size and locate this according to your other hobbies and needs. Finally, I like the idea of having a computer in the garage. You've got a couple options but I suggest making a small nook area (nothing fancy). A 28"x28" shelf mounted to the wall would do. Then mount an LCD (19") to the wall in front of it. As for the computer get a first gen mac mini or a shuttle PC. Something cheap with a CD drive so you can reference websites and use online manuals. Then get a rugged keyboard and you're done. If your garage is fancy you can add more things but for the most part keep is simple and store the things you rarely use while making easily accessible the tools you regularly use.
