Message what you want to get. In my experience, people with excellent quality
cars who list on ebay know the value of them and use the reserve
price to protect themselves from a forced sale at too low a price.
Because of this the auction really just becomes a way of meeting serious
prospective buyers who are willing to negotiate after the auction closes
without a winning bid. This is how I found the car I bought (21k miles
$18750).

The car I cited in my thread is also an example of this. The seller got
exposure for his Z, but never got the price he wanted,
so he retained ownership. However, I don't know if the listing led to a
subsequent sale. Must admit I was tempted to contact the seller before
the auction was over, but I restrained myself.
