In my experience, people with excellent quality cars who list on ebay know the value of them and use the reserve price to protect themselves from a forced sale at too low a price. Because of this the auction really just becomes a way of meeting serious prospective buyers who are willing to negotiate after the auction closes without a winning bid. This is how I found the car I bought (21k miles $18750).The car I cited in my thread is also an example of this. The seller got exposure for his Z, but never got the price he wanted, so he retained ownership. However, I don't know if the listing led to a subsequent sale. Must admit I was tempted to contact the seller before the auction was over, but I restrained myself.
