Message To start with, this is not a post to bash Z1 in any way. It is purely informative.

That said, I recently purchased a set of Z1 high performance valve springs. They arrived in a ziploc bag with no specs, so I called Z1 and asked for specs. Nobody could give me any specs, they said to set the installed height to the stock installed height and I'll be fine. I was a little annoyed, but I figured I could test them and make sure they were all equal (a buddy of mine bought dual-coil Ferrea valve springs for his Supra and 4 of them were weak... they replaced the whole set for him). I referenced the FSM to find out the testing specs for the stock ones (120.6 lbs. @ 1.043").

I started to test them and got 109, 106, 106, 108, 108, 105... After a while I thought I might be doing something wrong, so I checked a stock valve spring w/ 143,000 miles on it. The pressure @ 1.043" was 115 lbs.. I am using a Goodson [[LL[ http://www.goodson.com/store/template/product_detail.php?IID=2610&SID=73e882ba6a74213284fd524b7f10e7b5 ]|VST-58]] valve spring tester, and I am using it properly.

I proceeded to test multiple stock valve springs and they were consistent. I randomly selected one of each (a Z1 valve spring and a stock valve spring) and tested them at various heights (1.5, 1.4, 1.3, 1.2, 1.1, 1.043). Here are the results:

1.5" - Z1, 37.........Stock, 28

1.4" - Z1, 50.........Stock, 43

1.3" - Z1, 64.........Stock, 61

1.2" - Z1, 80.........Stock, 79

1.1" - Z1, 96.........Stock, 100

1.043" Z1, 108.......Stock, 115

When I talked to them on the phone, I was told that the Z1 valve springs would have from 12-28 lbs. more pressure than stock depending on the height. Maybe I got a bad batch, but I doubt it. The most it had was 9 more, but that was at a spring height that would not be seen once the head is assembled (the tallest the spring would be is shorter than 1.5")

Like I said, this is not to bash Z1. I haven't talked to them about this yet, and I am expecting (hoping?) that they will allow me to exchange them (plus the difference) for JWT springs.

This post is strictly to inform people to ALWAYS verify a claim. If I would have just installed these, I never would've found out. I don't know why anyone would not believe me, but I can take pictures to prove it on Tuesday if there are a lot of people who think I have ulterior motives. I bought these springs fully intending to use them, but I don't like to trust other people to do their jobs when I have a lot of money on the line.
