I dont know if you have this car sold in USA. It was Mistubishi Carisma GT Evolution VI. Basically same kind of car as Impreza WRX. 280hp stock, 4cyl 2.0 turbo engine, 4wd... a rally kind of car. Anyway here's the story. I was driving on two lane freeway (two lanes + emergency stop... or is that 4 lane? i dont know, anyway, i have two free and drivable lanes going in my direction :), something like 'autobahn', going my steady ~100mph and it was night already. I see in my rearview mirror a pair of lights closing up fast, and >swhosh< the car flew past me, and like 100 yards later he had to brake, cause on the overtaking lane, there were few cars overtaking a another group of cars. I'm like, wow, heh, lets show him how my ~310hp compares to those poor 280hp from 2.0 engine, heh. I get right up behind him, and we're waiting for the overtaking lane to clear to the right.
We're doing like 95mph, when the cars in front are finally done overtaking and move to right. I nail it in 4th gear, so does he and then - A SHOCK! He walks away from me like literally i was not pressing my throttle. I really looked at boost gauge if i lost boost or what the heck is going on here. He simply walked away. In a true meaning. He wasnt making more and more distance, but he >drove away<. By the time i had 130mph he was already at least 50 yards away and braking for next group of cars on left lane. I catch up to him again, and again same shit. We take off at 90mph, and he simply walks away :) I dont know what he had done to that poor little 2.0 4 cyl engine, but that thing killed me. That night i REALLY wished i already had ecu and boost controler :) Sure his car is lighter, but at 100mph and on, the weight shouldnt matter that much, the wind resistance matters more, and that car together with that huge wing in rear really has alot of drag. Oh mine, just wanted to share :) It's the first time i tried writing this kind of mail, so... dont spit if it sucks :) Oh, my car is 1990 2+2 Twinturbo, with test pipes and UD pulley, so around 310HP. European model car has only 286 stock, so.. a little drawback here :o)
