Message I just thought of something else though.

The way I understand it, coal is "oil" that has hardened from heat/pressure right?

If thats true then we would still be dependent on "oil" for gasoline. Just because its coming from a different source doesn't mean we aren't using the same resource.

Also, how much coal is out there? I'm pretty sure its not a renewable resource and how long till it is gone if we use it for this purpose as well as its current uses?

And as a disclaimer, I'm just trying to learn as I know nothing about coal.
