joint. sometimes if its too tight, they'll have to cut a hole in the chassis skin, weld the tube, then weld the plug back in. it really depends on the fabricator, if the bottom tube going to the frame/chassis mounts are sleeved, sometimes they can drop the whole cage a few inches, weld all the joints, then push it back up and finish the bottom with plenty of clearance. happens all the time on race trucks at least, i'm around a lot of cage fabrication.
