Then I got to thinking...if I were to do something similar to this, how can it be done on the cheap side? This is providing you already have the appropriate cabinetry. So the gears start turning as to what designs I could come up with that would be fairly easy to implement using simple techniques. Here's what I came up with:
 So here's the easy to actually create something like this. 1) Acquire and setup the cabinets, paint your base colors such as black or white and blue with some simple tape for clean lines.
2) Take whatever image you have such as the Z logo or the artists sketch of the car outline and have it printed on a transparency. Use a lamp or overhead projector to display the image and trace it out by hand. You can figure out the rest from there
3) For the background image, you can have 18x24in prints made from a jpg for 2 bucks here: [ http://www.shortrunposters.com/index.php ] and then pay kinkos or whatever to laminate it for you or frame it and hang. Optionally you can find a way to affix the photo directly to the surface with some glue.
What do you all think? With some effort, it can be done cheaply and look great.
I have the photoshop files available if anyone wants to play around with this. Sorry for the watermarking, but with the way things goes these days, this could end up for sale somewhere tomorrow.
