Message economic situation. How much longer until you graduate? Is you going into a field with a very competitive market for graduates?

Granted, your overhead is somewhat low now but will it be that way a month/6 months from now? From what you've written so far, it sounds like you've dumped a lot of money on the car already, why potentially throw more money into the pot at this time? Yes, it'd be great to drive the car after you've done all the work to it but at what cost to your financial liquidity down the road?

I think that you should do as much investigative (read: low cost) work up front so you can decide where you need to go next. That is, pull the motor yourself, and with the help of the master tech, do a tear down on the motor and see what is needed to fix the motor. You might luck out and get away with lightly rehoning the cylinders and a new set of rings. Or you may find significant issues that would dictate a motor from IPP.

I guess the bottom line is that you ultimately need to decide for yourself how this plays into your current educational and financial situation. I think there is some sound advise coming from people who have been down a similar road. Do your best to protect yourself financially from other economic variables that have yet to present themselves.

Good luck,

Dave
