| So, my Z had been running rough since I took her out mid March. It stalled on me in front of my apartment about 3 weeks ago and the idle seemed to be running low as well. I said that was enough, called my service manager and asked him if I could leave the Z around until one of the master tech's could take a look at it. I got this today. :( "I'm sorry to report the following Master technician notes Engine stalled 2 times coming in.
Found erratic coolant temp sensor readings - needs new connector Did an engine compression check #1 cyl 125 psi - #2 cyl 50 psi - #3 cyl 125 psi - #4 cyl 90 psi - #5 cyl 125 psi - #6 cyl 130 psi Test indicated bad rings and # 2 cylinder bad - valves low compression on 4 cylinders Left turbo leaking oil bad also engine needs to be resealed - valve covers leaking bad Checked oil pressure 35psi at idle - possible bad oil pressure switch" UGH. So, I've been researching my options for the past few weeks expecting the worst. I've come down to three basic options but first please look at my financial situation. I am a student, I do work about 35 hours a week on top of my full time classes, but that is mostly to pay the rent. I just got about 2500 back on my tax returns and it is currently sitting in my bank account. I also have about 1500 of reserve money sitting in my emergency account. Other than that I have excellent credit! (Which scares the ba-jesus out of me) So I have about 4 grand that I can readily spend. Option # 1: I can pull the engine and have it rebuilt either by a Nissan and ASA master tech who is the only tech in our shop that works on Z32's (We have about 10 who get regular service) He's my buddy so whatever I'll be doing I'll be paying him to throw the engine in. I know that a decent kit for rebuild will cost me about 1,500 on the low end. But I know how finicky our engines are. Do I want to take the chance on the rebuild? Option # 2: I buy a Long block package from Kyle @ IPP. Since no one will shut up about this guy I might as well give him a try. The only problem is, that's my 4 grand right there, I have no other money to have the engine assembled (Is this a terrible amount of work?) or have it installed into my Z and I feel like by the end of it I'll be down 7 or so grand. Let me know if that is an accurate estimate. Option # 3: I say F it, and buy a JDM replacement from Coz. Shittiest option, I'm aware, but I feel as if it is the most cost effective for where I am right now. Also, would give me a new (er) set of turbo's than my 140K mile 1990's. Please convince me of what to do. I appreciate your guys help. BTW, Bernie, looks like I'm out on the 5 Spd Swap. :(
