techniques but I did bring it up with my welder at the time we put them together. He said that it really wasn't necessary to do and I went with his suggestion. However, if I were to do them over again today, I would certainly have purged the inside of the pipes during the welding. Even though this wasn't done, I am sure you would appreciate the quality of the welds even on the inside. He was very careful not to get the metal overly-hot and cause the sugaring on the inside like you describe - that effect was very minimal.
