Cliff notes: don't drive your car often, then when you do take it out, you realized how much you missed it.
The long version: In order to prevent steps 4-7, sell yourself like a whore as a Z mechanic like myself. You'll eventually get tied of working on other peoples cars and then find new found enjoyment of your own. Since you're working on other people's cars all the time, it makes the time you spend driving yours like a new experience everytime. In addition, since you're working on customer's cars, that also implies that you are making a few bucks along with it. Use this money to buy mods (and other stuff or save) that you won't install for 6 months. When you finally get around to it, it turns into a never ending project. Then you'll know what it's like to be me.
