Message Either the TT flywheel is slightly larger than on the NA or the casting on the bellhousing between the two is slightly different (the TT putting the starter further out) or a combination of both.

Using a TT transmission, the starter teeth barely reach an NA flywheel, it will cause some grinding without shaving the bellhousing to get the starter's teeth closer to the flywheel's.
