I've never heard of it being a concern, although it looks cool and I am always a whore when it comes to fabricating something new.. What's the biggest advantage of doing this? : This is how I modified my stock rail to accept -8 AN fittings...which is the size (approx.) of the ID of the tubing that the stock rail is made of. The downside comes w/ the rubber connectors on it...they must have the tube choked down, restricting flow.
: This is what the final product looked like: : : To do this you need to chop 3/8 of an inch off of the front side. You must also talk with your welder as to want you want...the original rails are brazed together, so it bubbles up and makes the back side (nearest to cabin) a PITA to do. The important thing is to chop the 3/8 of an inch off of the front (toward front of car) side. Then normal -8 90 degree bends should work (you could also use low profile). In the rear you need to drill the entry and exit tubes (that come down from the plenum) out too...they stick into the path of fuel flow. To make the rear work we modified the driver's side hard heater hose and used a low profile connector on the passenger side. Combine the "custom" rails w/ a regulator (Paxton, SX, etc.) and you will have a very nice fuel system for cheap. Here are a couple pics of the assembly out of the car: : : : Note: I chose -8 AN over -6 b/c I would rather have too much fuel than too little. Also, I think of my TD05s as a beginning turbo for me, until I have the time to get some 18Gs, 20Gs, or some other turbo w/ reflanged manifolds :-). Most people don't think like me, so -6 should be fine for most. (The only members of this "elite" club are Mal1ce, Wesman, and some of the SoCal crew, like ZHound and maybe Steve :-)) : Also, I have the stock fuel pipes that go on the rails are still on there just in case it didn't end up fitting in the rear (which it does w/ a little modification) and I will cut them off and weld them next time I have the engine apart or the rails off. : Anyway, I hope this gave you guys some ideas. Feel free to post thoughts and questions.
