| urethane "ChromaClear" clearcoat. I've been happy with it - predictable flow characteristics with good tolerance to run. The finish of the clear once cured doesn't vary by any perceptable degree from the finish at the time it is applied. I've used their paint for engine components for years now. No rattle-can engine paints come close to the finish and durability of DuPont's paint, although I would imagine some of the other high-end paint manufacturer's product would serve just as well. When I started tinkering with automotive grade paints and equipment, I started with the DuPont product and just stuck with it given the good results I had from the get-go. I went a little heavier with the clear than I would on a body component - 4 coats with the latter two a heavy full-wet shot. Interestingly enough, I refinished my Blitz wheels about 10K miles ago; stripped the factory clear and repolished the lips. I used brake parts cleaner on a clean rag to wipe them down and then hit them with a few coats of straight clear. So far it appears I got a good bond - no clear flaking off even when using high-pressure washer wands to blast brake dust and road grime loose. This may end up being a finish that could be used for many other polished aluminum parts - would certainly reduce the maintenance of having bling.
