(1) I had the covers off and was planning on getting JWT VTC springs in the near future. I hate that you have to remove the coolant hard lines to remove the timing cover (which means draining the coolant and removing and reapplying RTV, two things that I would avoid doing as much as possible). I remember seeing someone else do it so I decided to give it a shot as well to save time and hassle.
(2) They let me know that the intake cam gears are still in time.
These aren't 2 good reasons for doing it and I wouldn't recommend anyone else to do it. I would perhaps cut a bigger hole when working with adjustable cam gears.
