Message Expect a lot of expenses. If I was you, I would avoid driving it at all costs to keep the collectable value high. Dont fuck it up by modding it, etc...save that for your Z. Dont G up such a nice example.

The twin turbocharged rotaries are notoriously unreliable. They can fail even at 50K-100K miles with minor/no modifications. I know that changing the apex seals periodically helps, but that is essentially a rebuild anyways.

I wish I knew more, but im just going off of things I read about them before I bought my 1st Z. They are definately not a practical car. 15 mpg ;)

Here is a nice little excerpt from a forum i noticed...cant vouch for the validity but it is interesting enough...

"i have read through everything here and cannot believe that many people believe the engine is so unreliable. its really simple to make these things last forever. first, do not act like its a piston driven engine. change oil every 2000 to 2500 miles. second, the engine burns oil everytime you turn it on, this is what those pretty lil hoses that go under your manifold are for, they are oil metering lines. check your oil level every time you fill your gas tank, if you are low, fill it back up. duh!. make sure you use 50/50 coolant/anti-freeze, if its too rich it will eat the aluminum block, if its too thin you'll burn your engine up, heat is the rotary's worst enemy. my '87 Rx-7 has 289,000 miles on it, apex seals changed once. my '88 rubo Rx-7 has 432,000 miles and the apex seals have been changed three times. take care of the rotary and it will do the same for you."

just some food for thought, im sure theres more to come.

PLEASE - take care of that car ;) Its beautiful, and the low miles make it more so.
