Message He says he's going to include the cost of shipping in the payment to him and that he'll have to pay the shipping company out of the money from the cashiers check. So he's not paying shipping and being reimbursed. Also, he doesn't say that he owns the shipping company, just that he has a private company, which could simply mean it's a company that he uses routinely. (If he were to say that the payment wouldn't be there until after the car was picked up, then I'd agree with you completely.)

I'll admit that it is strange that he can't pay the shipping company directly, but it's not nearly as suspicious as the usual "I'll send you a check for $30,000, cash it and return the difference to me." Perhaps the company wants payment upon picking up the shipment.

I'd say it's 50/50 and agree with DualZ that, as long as the check goes through, it's probably fine. If you have $3500 in your hand with enough money left over to pay the shipping company, then you're in the clear. The question is: will the check clear? Since he offers a cashier's check, it's safer, but you won't know until you have the cash in your hand.

Never trust that the check will go through and ship the car before knowing, though.
