that mechanic is trying to royally give you the "shaft".... If all your other accessories work, like water pump, alternator, then your crank pulley should be ok. I was reading some of the other posts and responses here and it doesn't sound right. If your crank pulley was loose you would be able to tell, it would make a hell of a racket, still yet, it wouldn't spin freely because of the key, it would just bounce around making noise. Tighten that up if it's loose. If your accessories are turning like your alt., etc. then either your belt to your PS is busted, or your PS pump is hosed. Who knows, I may be dead wrong but I don't think it has a single thing to do with your crank shaft. Whatever you find, be sure to bring it to the guys attention that told you that you might need a new crankshaft, thats just rediculous.
