Message As for whether it's all the same... it's rather subjective. Ofcourse if we're comparing quality of stuffed toys, then the issue of quality may not be as pertinent as... say... an engine-critical automobile part.

Having worked for DENSO here in Japan for 3 years, part of my work was to oversee the setting up of facilities/factories in various areas of China. DENSO's Chinese factories are some of the newest and state of the art facilities in the company's GLOBAL inventory.

With all the high-tech tools and machinery in those factories (many of which would definitely make a guy like Bernie blush), the QC scores are terrible compared to most of DENSO's other factories. The product rejection rates are much higher than company's global standard for two main reasons:

1. Poorly trained personnel & often times, these very same personnel are from low-education backgrounds.
2. Workers who pretty much don't care about doing things right nor fully comprehend the high quality-needs as long as the end result looks "close enough".

I'm only talking about one major manufacturer but I'm pretty sure many other manufacturer's with factories in China are going through the same problem(s).

I'm not saying all Chinese made products are inherently bad, I question the quality and validity of products where their "history" is vague and often untrackable. If you're okay about installing a questionable Chinese made part (or any other non-OEM part for that matter) into your car and you're willing to unnecessarily risk premature engine failure because you wanted to save a few dollars over a competing part with a better product track record, then be my guest.

The quality marks are getting better these days but I'm only speaking in terms of a global manufacturer keeping a watchful eye on their facilities and their contractors. I can only imagine what a smaller company does to keep watch especially when they have little or no physical presence in China and heavily relies on contractors to manufacturer the product on their behalf.
