Message	by the time you screw it on the oil level has dropped because of absorption so you don't spill any. It probably doesn't make that much difference unless you drain your oil overnight, but I've always done it where possible. The missus has a Rav4 & the oil filter goes on upside down so the filter in that just gets a smear on the thread and seal (for obvious reasons)
