yes because the weight of the car is creating the friction forces and is greater when turning. and when you stop, yes your brakes have to slow down the momentum of the wheels but thats chicken feed compared to the force that the brakes need to overcome the momentum of the car.. thats why big brake kits are much better at changing angular momentum because V=RxW (linear velocity = radius times angular vel) and linear momentum is L=RxP.. so a larger R will help counteract the forces..
