Message Yep, I've been up since 5:30am yesterday and have just gotten home from Missouri. I'm tired as hell and very cranky (didn't get enough coffee on the trip... LOL). Just thought I'd throw in a story about the trip.

A fellow Z-er on the forum (DP aka ZOnlyOne or was is ZOnly1?), a friend of mine recently sold his 90 NA 2+2 to upgrade to a TT, found a 90 yellow TT for sale by TT.net member OLD YLR. He had been in constant contact with him about the car and decided he wanted the car (it's been his life long dream to own a yellow TT... LOL).

So anyway, I'm asked to help look over the car and to suggest things to look for in buying a TT. We asked for a compression and leak down test to be done and we got the initial numbers back Tuesday lunch time and they read a little low for our comfort. So we ended up calling the shop that did the compression to find out what exactly they did only to find out they did the car cold when we specifically asked for it to be done when fully warmed up.

So basically, they ended up having to redo them but we didn't get the actual numbers until about midnight Tuesday. plans got kinda messed up and schedules had to be rearranged a bit and that kinda put me more off from an already shitty week I was having. But the numbers came back right where we expected them to be. So we booked the plane tickets that night for a Wednesday (yesterday) mid-morning departure.

I get up at 5:30am to try and finish up on some loose ends before heading to the airport with DP. The flight leaves on time at 11:40am for St. Louis, Missouri.... 2 hours later we get put in a holding pattern due to bad weather. Great luck I'm having lately.... LOL The weather in Baltimore was sunny and warm when we left and it was raining and windy in Missouri.... anyhow, after almost 30 minutes, we get cleared to land at 1:30pm... woohoo!

Shawn McCloskey (sp?) aka OLD YLR, met us at the gate and quickly shuttled us to his place to show DP the yellow TT. I don't think I've ever seen anyone drool so much over a Z in my life... LOL So anyway, I started looking over the car, paint is all original, some minor blems and a few fixable dings but otherwise, the body was in excellent condition. I then ran the ECU diagnostic... first it spat out a code 33 (left O2 sensor) and then it just went away, all 55. I guess we just needed to clean the connectors a little.

Next was the test drive... the car was smooth and very strong but I noticed the boost was a bit slow to build so I check the installation of the AVC-R and found a few mistakes in the installations and after rechecking the programming paramaters, I figure out what the problem is. Easy fix for later. We get done with looking over the car and making sure of everything and but then it was after 3:30pm, we had to run over to the bank to get the title before it closes.

We drive about a 1/2 hour to get to the bank only find out we were 15 miutes late (Doh!). They had closed!!! Looks like we were going to have stay in St. Louis for the night. At this point, I was starting to get annoyed with everything as I had to be back here in Baltimore no later than this evening to pick up my girlfriend from the airport. She's been gone for 6 months in Japan and with recent crap and constant rearranging of schedules, not being there to pick her was not an option. I had no return ticket as we were going to drive back to Baltimore with the Z (or with a rental if the car didn't meet our expectations).

Luckily, Shawn knew the President of the bank so we were given the VIP treatment for after hours banking... LOL We get it all done and after a quick stop at a Steak 'n' Shake, we were on the road by 6:30pm. We drove 15 hours to get home, taking turns at the wheel, clicked off a few high speed runs (few in excess of 120 mph on the deserted sections of highway, Dp barely made it to the century... LOL) along the way and encountered a few interesting sights.

On the way back we saw the St. Louis Arches which was on our way out of town anyway, and about the only touristy thing we did the entire trip... LOL. We also came across an 18 wheeler laying on it's side on I-70 blocking the entire one side of the freeway (luckily it was on the opposite side, and it looked like no one was seriously hurt). We also noticed there were about 30 different exits you can take along I-70 from Missouri to Maryland for US Route 40... LOL. Is someone trying to tell us something there???

I think this happened in Ohio but a duallie pulling a big ass trailer with a car in the back swerved and lost control on our side of the highway. Everyone slammed on their brakes and narrowly missed duallie as it sat stalled blocking about half of the lanes. And just as we crossed into Pennsylvania, we see a new Cavalier that had blown one of tires and laying upside down in a ditch with smoke billowing out of the car. Occupants were nowhere to be found but present on the scene was a state trooper, fire truck and ambulance.

So anyhow, 15 hours later after hauling major ass where we could, missing road debris and obstructions, and missing the duallie, we head over to BWI where we had left DP's dad's Z31 in Satellite Parking. I think another hour later and he would have been charged for 2 days parking... LOL

Our road trip basically cut through Missouri, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, a very small part of West Virginia, PA and then down into MD.

So anyhow, here are the few pics I took (click to see a larger pic):
