You're assuming that they reduce gearing to increase speed, when in fact a more plausible explanation is that they do so to increase driveability with normal tires and suspension components. Will more aggressive gearing smoke normal tires? Yes! Will it result in better acceleration with the proper complimentary modifications? Yes! That's where we're going with this.
