| Good news and bad news. The good news is it looks like all 6 pistons are reusable. 2 rods were toast, and the crank had the #1 main bearing welded onto it, and the surfaces for #1 and #2 rods were toast as well. I already have a fresh crankshaft purchased from a local member (thanks, Alex). I'm obviously buying 2 new rods to replace #1 and #2. The other rod journals mic'd out within spec and there was no gouging, scoring, or pitting other than some MINOR vertical marks in cylinder 1. For that reason, I am thinking of going another 0.25mm over (0.75mm or 0.030" total over stock diameter) to get the cylinder surfaces up to par and honed nicely. #1 main is .030 inches = 0.762 millimeters over in diameter due to bearing wear. Nissan has a main bearing set that is 0.025" over: 12208-30P01. My question is this: obviously all main bearings will be machined at the same time (the .025" over mains come as a set, you cannot order individually). Is the long term reliability of the motor compromised with this setup? I have heard of people PURPOSELY going with oversized mains. If so, was that done with the part number I found on the fiche? Also, the Swain coating on the skirts of the Wiseco pistons is shot (due to contamination in the oil causing premature wear). I am debating having the skirts recoated to get to 0.75mm or going with a whole new set of pistons. Believe it or not, the rings in these pistons all look good too. I should have brought my camera to the shop, sorry. The heads are in tip-top condition. He is going to see if any contaminants made their way into the lifters, but I am keeping my fingers crossed. No collateral damage on the heads, no radial stress cracks on the valves, the heads are pretty much ready to bolt back on once the bottom end is sorted out.
