wants to upgrade to the water pump OD pulley, but I don't view is as essential, and any benefits from it are unproven to this point. Being able to measure a difference with a more sensitive water temp gauge is not necessarily a benefit or even a reason to upgrade. "Not everything that can be counted, counts'" (Einstein). I have the underdrive crank pulley. My stock temp gauge has never failed me. It rides rock solid at a 44 minute position. Once on the track, it crept up a bit to let me know my stock lower rubber radiator hose was folding. Another time it crept up when I had a pinhole leak in my replacement metal lower hardpipe. The point is, the stock gauge did everything it was designed to do - it gave me an early warning of a potentially overheated car. According to the FSM, as long as you're not driving with the gauge in the red, then you're okay. Having a more sensitive gauge to look at yields just that, more numbers to look at. Does that prove anything? No one here knows for sure. The lack of any failure rates reported here due to overheating with an underdrive crank pulley would indicate to me that the OD water pump pulley is not essential. The key is outcome, not process. Heat is generally the enemy so I can understand why folks would anecdotally gravitate towards using the OD water pump pulley. I have no plans to install one at this time.
